University of Iowa College of Nursing plans to establish several geriatric educational services as the result of a $2.2 million gift commitment to the UI Foundation by UI alum Barbara Csomay, according to a UI press release.

“It was so important to my late husband, Dick, and me to find an effective way to promote health care for an aging population in rural Iowa,” Csomay said in the release. “The UI College of Nursing is doing very meaningful work in this area, and I hope our gift will enhance its efforts to change people’s lives.”

The donation will be used to develop the Barbara and Richard Csomay Center for Gerontological Nursing Excellence and doctoral and practitioner scholarships.

Sprint Scholarship

The Sprint Scholarships are awarded to students of junior and senior high school whoa re majoring in technical degree programs such as computer science, electronics engineering, political science, management and marketing. The applicants are required to have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and they also must have financial need. A scholarship worth $2,500 is awarded to the students who are found deserving and are studying in Historically Black Colleges and Universities. For applying for the scholarship the students have to complete the online scholarship application form before the dead line of February 1 every year. The deserving students are selected through a comprehensive selection process.

Verizon Wireless Scholarship

To be eligible for the Verizon Wireless Scholarship, which is offered by Verizon in support of Black History Month, one has to write an essay about how the evolution of wireless technology is changing. The scholarship amount ranging from $2,500- $5,000 is granted by the Verizon to assist you in paying your college tuition fees. The qualified high school seniors having a minimum GPA of 2.0 must be residents of one of 25 participating states of USA. The student who is selected for the scholarship can also expect to get a new laptop, cell phone and Verizon gift cards.
