An Insight Into The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant or the FSEOG program is one that offers grants to need based undergraduate students who come from low income groups. These grants are provided to students who cannot get access to post secondary education. The main objective of this grant is to provide the much required aid to students so that they receive the education that they need. The above students are eligible to receive these grants at any one of the 4000 participating institutions that deal with post secondary education.
The FSEOG allocations that have been made to eligible institutions with the major objective of providing undergraduate students who are attending the institution need based grants and scholarships. These allocations that are provided by the institutions are under a funding that is under a statutory formula. This funding formula makes these funds get distributed to institutions firstly on the basis of their base with the addition of the pro rata share that were received during the award year of 1999-2000 under
The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant Program at that time. It was also based on the aggregate need of the undergraduate student’s attendance. The Institutions require contributing 25% of the funds. The students who are applying for the FSEOG need to fill in the Free Application For Federal Student Aid or the FAFSA form to state and determine their financial need. The financial need is one that is determined by The US Department Of Education by using a standard formula that is established by the Congress to evaluate and get the financial information that has been reported on FAFSA form.
