Veterans sacrificing their life in the battlefield deserve proper recognition. One form of such recognition is scholarship, which may be provided to them or their spouse and dependents or to both. There are many scholarship opportunities that are currently available for them, such as the ones provided by ThanksUSA and Pat Tillman Foundation. Besides those two, there are many other institutions that provide financial help to veterans and their family members who want to pursue a particular degree. The following five scholarships are available for veteran spouses who want to earn a nursing degree.

  1. Home for the Warriors Scholarship

This scholarship is provided to veterans’ spouses who are pursuing any undergraduate and graduate degrees, including nursing degree. The amount of grant provided is $20,000 and is credited for up to four years. Application process is online. Candidates can download the application form from the Hope for the Warriors’s website, fill it, and upload it before May 30, 2014.

  1. MOPH Scholarship Program

Military Order of the Purple Hearts (MOPH) provides a competitive scholarship to veterans’ spouses and dependents, including their children and grandchildren. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must be a graduate or upcoming graduate, full-time students in an accredited U.S. college, and maintaining at least 2.75 cumulative GPA. Application requirements include a transcript, a 200-300 words-essay, two recommendation letters, and paying processing fee. The amount of scholarship is still undisclosed.

  1. Air Force Aid Society Scholarship

Air Force Aid Society provides scholarship through its General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant Program. The amount of scholarship offered is $2,000 and is provided to the dependents and spouses of Air Force veterans, also including surviving spouses of deceased veterans. To apply for this scholarship, candidates have to be enrolled in any colleges or universities approved by the U.S. Department of Education and must have at least 2.0 GPA on a 4 grading scale.   1. HERO Scholarship

The State of Georgia provides financial help to spouses and children of members of the Georgia National Guard and U.S. Military Reservists through a scholarship program called HERO (Helping Educate Reservists and their Off-spring) program. It is required that the personnel whose spouses or children receive grant have to be veterans who served in a combat zone for at least 181 cumulative days beginning from or after February 1, 2003.   1. The Gold Star Scholarship Program

This scholarship program is administered by Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society and provides grant to the children and spouses of sailor or marine veterans who died while serving or after retiring. The amount of grant ranges from $500 to $2,500 per academic year. Spouses who want to receive the scholarship must not remarry; otherwise, they will be deemed ineligible.
