With the rising cost of education, becoming a certified licensed practical nurse can seem daunting. Though the LPN and LVN career paths will be stable and lucrative ones, often times it can seem as if school is an impassable wall. The cost of education doesn’t seem to be abating; however the nursing field is becoming more and more attractive. The medical industry has always been solid during times of economic hardship.

LPN and LVN scholarships and grants are the most logical route to take if you are attempting to scrape up the funds to go to school. Finding these scholarships is not always easy, but it is extremely feasible if you know where to start looking.

The Military

Extracting LPN and LVN scholarships from the US Military is probably one of the easiest ways to find yourself in a nursing program. The military is in constant need of nurses, and often times, the military will often pay for the entire training process. Though, enlisting might be a roll of the dice, because the military will put you where they want you. It is important to keep in mind that when you enlist or join through an ROTC program, you are committing the next 4-8 years of your life to the military. But it is not uncommon to see the military offering $5,000 per semester and $600 for the cost of books to qualified applicants.

The Process

To receive an LPN or LVN scholarship, you must be prepared to submit volumes of documentation. These trust funds, organizations, and commercial-medical companies want to know that they are throwing their money at a qualified individual. It is important to convince them that you’re worth it! You will most likely be asked to write an essay describing your qualifications and your aspirations. You also need to have high school transcripts and references at the ready. If you’ve got all of this lined up, then the application process should be a breeze.

There are literally hundreds of scholarships that you can receive from hundreds of different providers. LPN and LVN scholarships are not difficult to come by; you simply just need to know where to look.
